Holidays Are For Time With Family And Friends

A new study has revealed that half of UK holidaymakers travel with their extended family and friends in order to spend quality time in each others’ company.

The research also showed that those who choose to go away with the same group of people have been doing this for an average of almost seven years.

Apart from Christmas and New Year, which are traditionally based around family activities, the new study carried out for Aviva found that Britons like to use their annual holidays as another chance to catch up with those close to them.

More than a third of those who took part in the poll said that they actively choose to go on holidays with grandparents, parents, siblings, cousins and friends, and of those 35% felt more inspired to do more exciting activities whilst away.

More practical matters also played a part in the decisions, with nearly a third saying that sharing the costs made the holiday more affordable, and one in ten took advantage of being able to share childcare duties.

Business development director at Aviva Simon Warsop commented: “It seems the days of rushing off to escape home life are behind us with friends and family now an integral part of our holiday plans. Holidays are a great time to get away from the daily grind and spend a bit of quality time with our nearest and dearest.”

The most common type of holiday for this ‘family and friends’ group is the classic sun and sea beach break, although cultural city breaks and sightseeing trips were also popular.

For some though there is even more appeal, as nearly of fifth said that going away as a group meant that they didn’t have to pay anything towards the cost at all.

“It is perhaps not surprising therefore, to see that nine out of ten surveyed said they would happily go on a holiday as part of the same group again in the future,” Mr Warsop summed up.

Another great way to keep tabs on your money is to take a travel money card card, which can help you stay on budget whilst overseas.
