Currency Information on Jordanian Dinar - JOD— Jordanian Dinar – دينار or JD

The Jordan Currency Board was formed in 1949, after Jordan gained independence in 1946; their sole purpose was to issue Jordanian currency, based in London.

The currency became the official currency of Jordan in 1950, meaning the cessation of the use of the Palestinian pound. Dinars used to be subdivided three ways; 1/10 – dirham, 1/100 – qirsh and 1/1000 – fils, though now, only qirsh and fils are used to denote prices.

Coins are available in denominations of ½, 1 qirsh, 2½, 5, 10 piastres, ¼, ½ and 1 dinar, banknotes are in circulation in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 dinars.
